How to find grants for your business

We don't keep our own grants list — it would go out of date fast. Instead, here's how to use the official finder and what to have ready before you apply.

Grants change oftenConditions, regions and closing dates change regularly. This page helps you use the official tools — it doesn't replace the official application pages. Always confirm eligibility and deadlines on the official site.

Step 1 — Use the official Grants and programs finder

The government's finder lets you filter by your location, industry and what you need funding for. It's the most reliable, up-to-date source.

Step 2 — Know what to filter by

Grants are usually targeted, so be ready to filter on:

  • Your state or territory
  • Your industry or sector
  • Your business stage (starting, growing, exporting)
  • Purpose (equipment, hiring, innovation, digital, energy, disaster recovery)
  • Business size and turnover

Step 3 — Prepare before you apply

Most applications ask for similar things. Get these ready:

  • Your ABN and business structure details
  • A short business plan or project description
  • A budget and quotes for what you're funding
  • Recent financials or turnover figures
  • Evidence you meet the specific eligibility criteria

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying after the closing date — check dates first
  • Missing eligibility criteria you don't meet
  • Vague budgets with no quotes or detail
  • Assuming a grant covers 100% of costs (many are co-contributions)
