Google Business Profile checklist for Australian businesses

Last reviewed 2026-07-17

For local businesses, Google Business Profile (GBP) is often the fastest way to get calls and direction requests. Use this checklist in order.

Setup checklist

  1. Create or claim the listing at google.com/business
  2. Verify the business (postcard, phone, email or video — options vary)
  3. Set the exact business name (match signage / registered name where possible)
  4. Choose a primary category and relevant secondary categories
  5. Add address or service area, phone, website and hours
  6. Add services or products with prices if you can
  7. Upload logo, cover, exterior, interior and work photos

Consistency checklist (NAP)

Name, address and phone should match across Google, your website, Facebook, Instagram and directories. Inconsistencies confuse Google and customers.

Reviews checklist

  • Ask happy customers with a direct review link
  • Reply to every review within a few days
  • Never buy fake reviews
  • Fix the underlying issue when a review is negative

Weekly 20-minute checklist

  • Add one photo or post
  • Reply to Q&A and messages
  • Check Insights: calls, direction requests, website clicks
  • Update holiday hours before long weekends
